Why this matters
Many oils sold as "argan" are cut with cheaper oils or perfumed. If you live abroad, it is hard to check before you buy.
What real argan oil looks like
Cosmetic argan oil is light golden yellow with a mild nutty scent that fades. It absorbs without a heavy greasy film. Label: 100% Argania spinosa kernel oil, cold-pressed, no other ingredients.
Red flags
Strong perfume, almost clear or very dark colour, suspiciously low price, long ingredient list (silicones, fragrance), clear plastic bottles kept in sunlight, vague wording like "with argan".
