A short guide to propolis and honey: their place in Moroccan homes, how they are used and what to keep in mind.
Propolis (العكبر (البروبوليس))
Propolis is a resin bees collect from tree buds to seal the hive.
How to use: Use only as stated on the label, after asking a professional. This article is for information only.
Honey (العسل)
Honey has long been part of the Moroccan table: at breakfast with bread and butter, and in pastries such as chebakia.
How to use: A small spoon at breakfast or in a warm drink. No honey or hive products for babies under 1 or anyone allergic to bee products.
Making room for propolis in your habits
- Read the label carefully, keep the original pack and don't use propolis in any way other than stated.
- Watch how your skin or hair responds and stop if any irritation appears.
- Propolis can be combined with hammam staples such as black soap and the kessa glove.
- Keep it simple: one or two regular steps beat many irregular ones.
